Scoring - Amateur Boxing
20th June 2011
Olympic/Amateur Boxing is about scoring: there are many debates about the scoring system, however below is a brief guide about how you can generate points effectively;
Tips:
- Try and control the bout; this means keep the centre of the ring, that way your exposed to more than one judge and your punches are clearer to see, hence you will score more often,
- Work rate; throw more combinations and you will land more punches, single shots are great but easier to defend than multiple punches - also switch target areas from head to the body.
- Switch Target Areas: body shots are often neglected - generally the body is more static and a larger area so its easier to score punching the body - more body shots wont just score - they also drawer the opponents guard down from the head.
